THANKASMRITHI

Folkland – International Centre for Folklore and Culture, with CSR support from Dorf Ketal Chemicals India, organized Thanka Smrithi – 2026 on 14 June 2026 at Tharakam, Thalichalam, Kasaragod, in memory of the late Thankam Amma, a respected social and cultural activist. A major highlight of the programme was the presentation of the Thanka Pathakkam to renowned folk singer Smt. Thambayi Amma in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the preservation and promotion of Kerala's folk music traditions. The function was presided over by Shri V. K. Ravindran, with actress Smt. Rachana Narayanankutty attending as the Chief Guest. Shri Ethirdisha Suresh delivered the memorial address, and Roudrasree T. T. Krishnan honoured Thambayi Amma with a ceremonial shawl. The programme also featured an impressive performance of Yakshagana Pavakali (Yakshagana Puppetry) by the Sree Gopala Krishna Yakshagana Bommayatta Troupe, led by Shri K. V. Ramesh of Kasaragod. The colourful puppet theatre performance showcased the richness of this rare traditional art form and emphasized the importance of preserving India's intangible cultural heritage. The memorial programme reflected Folkland's continued commitment to honouring cultural icons and promoting the conservation of India's rich folk and traditional art.
