Cultural Heritage Awareness Programme: Kutiyattam & Nangyarkoothu

Folkland – International Centre for Folklore and Culture, with CSR support from Dorf Ketal Chemicals, organised a Demonstration on Kutiyattam and Nangyarkoothu performances at Kaprassery Model Technical Higher Secondary School, Nedumbassery, on 8 September 2026. The programme introduced students and teachers to the rich traditions of Kutiyattam, a UNESCO-accredited Intangible Cultural Heritage of Kerala’s 2000-year-old classical Sanskrit theatre, through an engaging demonstration by Kalamandalam Sangeetha, highlighting abhinaya, facial expressions, gestures, body movements, and emotional expression. This was followed by a captivating Nangyarkoothu performance by Kalamandalam Aswathy, accompanied by Kalamandalam Ratheesh Bhas on Mizhavu, Kalanilayam Rajan on Edakka, and Kalamandalam Megha on Thalam.
